The Center for Industry Studies promotes scholarly research that is informed by the practical experience of industry in order to advance economics and other academic disciplines, and to enhance their impact on industry and on the community. In this way, we seek to provide educational opportunities for our students and to use scholarship as a vehicle for helping students gain access to professional opportunities. Through research and education we seek to enhance the well-being of our community and to further its economic development.

Follow the links on the left to find out more about what we do, our vision for the future, and the experience and research that shaped our past.

Industry Studies Association

The Industry Studies Association (ISA) is a newly formed professional association that is dedicated to promoting industry studies research by facilitating the exchange of ideas among ISA members and between ISA members and the general public.  Whatever their academic discipline, ISA members find advantage in basing their scholarship on the kind of significant personal investment that is necessary to develop deep understanding of the market and firm institutions most relevant to the industries that they study.  Often this investment involves direct interaction with industry practitioners as well as observation at the plant of firm/activity level.

ISA programs in support of its membership include access to an online membership directory, research discussion groups and forums, an annual conference, a working paper series, and awards for excellence in industry studies research.  In addition, the ISA is committed to establishing linkages with other academic communities and policy forums of interest to its members. The ISA is an independent, non-profit educational organization whose administrative office is housed in the Center for Industry Studies, University of Pittsburgh.

The web home of the Industry Studies Association is located at www.industrystudies.org.
