PLANT TOURS! The 2011 Industry Studies Conference offered an opportunity for participants to tour a steel-making facility in the region. Two plant tours were organized for the morning of Friday, June 3 as an optional add-on to conference registration. One of the tours took visitors to the USS Irvin Plant, which rolls and treats steel slabs produced at the nearby Edgar Thomson Plant. The other tour went to TMK IPSCO’s Ambridge Plant, which makes seamless pipes. Both plants are state-of-the art operations and were very interesting to visit.
